The focus for this week in Parliament is the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement, on which there’s been lots of speculation but no hints that the Government is going to do anything to tackle the crisis in the NHS and public services or support those struggling with the cost-of-living.

I’ll be in the Chamber on Wednesday to hear the Chancellor, but my week starts today with a meeting of the Choice at the End of Life All-Party Parliamentary Group, of which I’m a Vice Chair. I’ll also be speaking in a Westminster Hall debate on financial support for healthcare students. I am also sitting on the Delegated Legislation Committee on the draft Immigration (Age Assessments) Regulations 2023 where I’ll raise concerns expressed by the Refugee Council, and then joining University of Sheffield academics at the launch of UKAgeNet to promote the importance of ageing research .

On Tuesday our Health and Social Care Select Committee inquiry on the future of cancer care continues and I’ll also be meeting with the Royal College of GPs. Later I am attending an event on Ehlers Danlos syndrome, on which several constituents have written to me, before chairing an All-Party Parliamentary Group for Students event on the impact of increasing levels of paid employment on study and graduate outcomes.

As well as the Autumn Statement on Wednesday, I’ll be joining an event in advance of World Aids Day and meeting with the Union of Jewish Students to discuss rising antisemitism on campus. I’ll be back in Sheffield on Thursday and Friday, meeting with the CEO of Museums Sheffield, joining the annual meeting of my local Constituency Labour Party, catching up with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sheffield, and meeting the local NHS Integrated Care Board – before heading to the Crucible in the evening for a tribute concert for the late Lord Kerslake.
