This morning I challenged Energy Ministers on the failure of the Great British insulation scheme.  The GBIS was supposed to insulate 100,000 homes a year, but so far just 3,000 families across the country have been helped in eight months.

Of the 1.4 million people living in South Yorkshire, only 137 have had their home insulation upgraded through the GBIS.  Insulation is the most effective way of reducing consumption – cutting bills and emissions – and this is the third failed scheme since 2010.

This government failure leaves too many families in Sheffield and South Yorkshire, who are struggling to make ends meet with the soaring cost of energy bills, in poorly insulated homes.
