Paul Blomfield Former MP for Sheffield Central
Today’s business in Westminster is dominated by the latest amendments from the House of Lords to the Rwanda Bill as the Government continues to press their scheme regardless of its ineffectiveness and contravention of international human rights law.
Tomorrow I’ll be leading a Westminster Hall Debate on minimum income thresholds for partner and spousal visas in which I’ll be opposing the increases and sharing testimonies from constituents on how the changes will negatively impact their lives.
After that, it there’s time, I’ll be joining the later stages of the Health and Social Care Committee’s one-off session on hospice funding, before meeting with Movember to further discuss men’s health in relation to the Health and Social Care Select Committee’s inquiry.
Later I’ll be meeting with Jamie Oliver Group to talk about their campaign for encouraging a healthy food system as part of my work on childhood obesity. Then I’ll be joining the Coalfields Regeneration Trust at their Parliamentary reception to mark the launch of their State of the Coalfields’ report.
On Wednesday I’m meeting constituents at the Palestine Solidarity Campaign lobby day and participating in the Report Stage debate on the Renters’ Reform Bill, in which I’m opposing government backsliding on no-fault evictions and moving amendments on student renters. If possible I’ll also be joining a Westminster Hall Debate on the lessons learned from the collapse of Football Index.
Back in Sheffield on Thursday I’ll be joining an away day with Sheffield Museums Board, which I’ll be joining later this year and on Friday I’m meeting with Target Housing to discuss long-term solutions to homelessness, then visiting a local mosque before joining Sheffield Teaching Hospitals at one of our regular meetings.
Over the weekend I’ll be out knocking on doors and meeting constituents ahead of the Council and Mayoral elections on May 2nd.
